BME Outcome

16/4/12- Worked to finish the final outcome in Photoshop. I tried a different layout and used the eraser tool to remove some white background still remaining in the music notes. I think the layout is okay and feel the outcome is complete. The spotlight background looks to be a little bit pixelated although that is the result when enlarging some images in Photoshop because the quality decreases the bigger the size.

17/4/12- I removed the two images of Queen and The Beatles because if they had been included everyother act at the Britsh Music Experience would have wanted to have been featured as well. I added contact details, opening times and ticket prices for visitor information and justified the text for tidiness. I printed out the final outcome and presented it to the rest of the group for a critique. The design received positive reviews and the only thing that was suggested for improvement was the white music note because it appeared pixelated. In all I feel the outcome has been a successful one.

Photoshop Experiments

In this latest entry, I have experimented with designs in Photoshop. This includes a spotlight design with red white and blue music notes set against the Union Jack. The flag is faded out in the background so that the spotlight stands out. The notes still need some cleaning up with layer masking to edit out the white backgrounds although not very much. The font is also in red, white and blue to continue with the British theme used throughout.

Update- The letters 'B', 'M', and 'E' have been added to the music notes. The notes have been cleaned up some more and look better. I will now space out the text so that words and images are not battling with each other for space.

The white note has been moved to within the spotlight. I am unsure whether this works or not so I will have another look at it for potential improvements.

Mark Making Experimentation

27/3/12- Experimented with different hand generated mateials all of which are included in this latest blog entry. The design above has been produced from pastels. The design resembles the Union Jack with music staves going across it. The colours work well together and closely resemble my intentions.

The paint experiment again has the Union Jack this time inside the staves. The flag design works although the letters are not clearly visible. This could have been improved if the paint was a darker black colour which might have made the letters stand out more.

The experiment above used ink which features staves and BME and British Music Experience written below and above them respectivley. The writing is clearly visible and not difficult to read. I prefer the design that has BME below the staves because it is more simpler.

British Music Experience

5/3/12- Researched the British Music Experience and looked for some ideas. There were some things that appealed to me for my final design so I will now begin to draw some rough sketches.

12/3/12- Continued with research into British music icons of the 1960s through to the present day. Looked at some of the fashion and hair styles that were popular in each decade to work out the audiences they appealed to. I looked at a font style used on a Radio Tymes cover whilst browsing on Google Images and found it to be old fashioned and very much of the style at the time. I will now see how I can put my design into a professional context.

13/3/12- Searched on Google Images and found a generic psychedelic image. It is bright, colourful, kalidescope style pattern that would be seen when looking through one of the tubes. I will now begin to research BME's logo and corporate style. The logo is a record disc that resembles a target in the red, white and blue style used on the Union Jack. The font style is a basic blue colour and looks well placed next to the logo. I like the placement and the writing is sans serif, bold, modern, lower case. I think the letters are curved because it is written in bold and the icon is curved.

19/3/12- Took some photographs of artwork, logos, graphics for the purposes of research to see if anything would be suitable for my poster. I will now draw some rough designs of how the outcome could look. After drawing some sketches, I have been trying to come up with an idea for a poster and planning a layout.

20/3/12- In my assesment of The Beatles artwork by Peter Blake, it's font is made from flowers in all caps. The clothing used in the crowd represents the 1960s with some bright colours used. The style is an older one compared to today's modern standards which works well. I have also researched the British flag the Union Jack making sure it is the correct way up for use as a possible background on my poster. The design idea I have come up with is the British flag faded out in the background and B.M.E written inside staves. In the font examples below, I have found that either Metro or Signature would be a suitable font style to use for B.M.E.

26/3/12- Worked on design in Photoshop with the Union Jack faded out in the background and music notes filled with red, white and blue as their colours using the paint bucket tool. I used the eraser tool and layer masks to remove white background around the notes. Looked at some traditional music staves with treble clef as a way of showing music throughout the decades. This did not work so I decided not to use it.
